"I have bought and sold 6 homes in two states over the past 40 years and Chris is the best real estate professional I have ever worked with. She is ethical, honest, responsive, knowledgeable, and knows who to call for reasonably priced repairs. |
She was my broker for 2 sales in Oakland and El Cerrito and succeeded in achieving the results I wanted. My Oakland home sold for a record price in 2002! My El Cerrito house sold in 2 weeks in 2011, despite the recession. She works well with other brokers and seeks their opinions to get the price right. Her marketing expertise is extensive. In both cases she saw what was unique and desirable about my properties, focused on those features, and attracted the right buyers to the open houses. Her background in psychology makes her both a masterful negotiator and enabled her to help me keep things in perspective during what can be an emotionally taxing process.
I wish I could find someone with Chris' skills where I live now."

"It was a pleasure working with Chris and Amy to sell my house. They are a successful team that works well together and with you to assist you through the entire process. They assess the market, give helpful suggestions for preparing the house for viewing, skillfully show and market the property and make the sale. They are right there with the needed facts, figures, and suggestions, helping with all stages of the paperwork in such a way as to streamline the task, keeping details straight and working well with prospective buyers and their brokers because of many years of experience and excellent people skills. They are on top of each stage of negotiation and keep you well informed and advised through each step. They are expert in tailoring their service to meet your specific needs. Chris and Amy are a dynamic duo who have strong integrity and are a joy to work with when selling your home."|

"We went looking for a home in the East Bay thinking that we'd probably start out with high expectations but eventually compromise. Well, thanks to Amy Robeson, we found our perfect home and everything went more smoothly than we
could ever have imagined. Amy is tireless, and we often got detailed answers and thoughtful advice back from her in no time at all. She is there for you as much or as little as you need, and even when you are out at open houses
without her you always feel she is just a text or an email away. She doesn't do anything half way, always follows up, and she explains new things in a straightforward fashion that allows even folks looking at homes for the
first time (like us) to grasp the important concepts quickly. By the time we spotted the house we eventually purchased, Amy had turned us into a lean, house-hunting team! All throughout the bidding and closing process she was
front and center, making our offers as attractive to sellers as possible while keeping our feet on the ground. Amy is both warm and professional, and it was clear when we mentioned her name at open houses that she is
well-respected by her peers. One of Amy's talents is being able to identify potential issues with a property and provide solid advice on the likely time and cost needed to address them. This was very valuable in determining
which houses were worth dreaming about and which ones would be too much trouble. Without giving away all her secrets, we're convinced we got our perfect home because of Amy's unique skill set, her ability to read all the
players, and to bring her seasoned approach to bear in achieving everyone's goals together on both sides of the table.
Buying a first home can be scary, but Amy made it a truly enjoyable experience."|

"During my 36 years in Berkeley I have bought and sold multiple homes and income properties and have dealt with 20 different real estate agents. Once I found Chris Cohn, I knew I finally found the best. Chris is savvy, diligent and warm. She has integrity, conscience and enormous experience. After several excellent transactions with Chris, I was hesitant to work with her new partner, Amy Robeson, but Chris was unavailable when I found a new property. Amy blew me away! I'd turn to ask her to investigate something, and she was already doing it. She clearly kept my best interests in mind without ever crossing an ethical line. And - what can I say? - she wrote a powerful letter to the seller that turned a dead deal into a completed contract. What a hot wire! Both Chris and Amy keep right on top of things, think about what is best for their client (not how to make a sale), and are 100% trustworthy. What a team!
(David) I have observed several interactions between Chris Cohn and Ruth Rogow over the past few years and was so deeply impressed that I insisted on giving Chris a reference on LinkedIn. You don't often find someone who is both thoroughly competent and who puts the client first even when it is contrary to their personal benefit. Chris consistently does this. I have not interacted directly with Amy, but I have followed Ruth's experiences with several people in real estate, and Amy joins the select level inhabited by Chris in terms of honesty and proactively looking out for her client's best outcome. Both Amy and Chris seem to continually exceed what one can reasonably expect. Wow. . "

"Chris Cohn provided outstanding service as our broker during the sale of our Berkeley home. She has broad knowledge of the ins and outs of the East Bay market and the particulars and idiosyncrasies of selling a home in Berkeley or Oakland. |
Although 2010 has not been considered as a "sellers' market" period, she successfully generated extensive interest in our property, which resulted in very well-attended open houses and an attractive bid the first day we took offers.
As first-time sellers, we were unfamiliar with the process from that side. She is highly organized and an excellent communicator, providing clear explanations of the steps that need to occur and the meaning of the sometimes bewildering paperwork. She was instrumental in helping us locate excellent reliable contractors and specialists, some of whom we needed very quickly, even arranging to meet them at the house and serving as a critical on-site point of contact. This was extremely helpful to us, as we had moved out of California and were conducting our end of the sale from over 2,000 miles away. We couldn't have done it without her.
Chris skillfully helped us navigate through the escrow process, reducing our stress and anxiety to manageable levels. As well as being an expert at negotiating some of the inevitable "issues" that come up during a home sale, she was also sensitive to other matters that were important to us, such as our concern that our tenant's needs be accommodated as best as possible.
At the end of the process, we could not have been more pleased. (And we definitely got a price we were very happy with too). "

"Whoever invented the adage "Never do business with a relative" obviously hasn't met Chris Cohn. Choosing Chris (my sister) to represent our family in back-to-back transactions-the purchase of a new house and the sale of our longtime family home-was one of the best business moves we've ever made.
Chris took care of us from start to finish. Her negotiating approach-a blend of her keen business sense and her amazing people skills-made all the difference. Chris got us the house of our dreams in a competitive bid situation. She was a true pro when it came to the buying process, guiding us through the steady flow of paperwork with straightforward explanations and a minimum of hassle.
When it came to the subsequent sale of our home, Chris laid out a detailed, but easy-to-follow marketing strategy. We were on a tight schedule but Chris was always in control, upbeat and a joy to work with. She had a clear vision and executed it to a tee. Chris touched base with us frequently on countless details, and was always there for us when we contacted her. She made sure our house sparkled in time for the first open house. We were rewarded with a wonderful turnout, positive feedback, and a prompt sale. We couldn't be happier.
My sister is the best."

"I smoothly, swiftly and successfully sold my family home of nearly twenty years with Chris Cohn representing me. I feel very fortunate
to have worked with Chris. She so capably handled my home, my single
most important financial asset, and worked well with me. She had great suggestions, informed by extensive experience in the east bay market, and she always gave me the information I needed to make an informed decision.|
Chris was sensitive to the fact that this was a time of major transitions for myself and my family: moving out of our long time home, establishing ourselves in a new setting, dealing with new commutes, personal changes, new financial considerations. Chris handled the bulk of the work preparing our home for showing, and of course had it beautifully staged.
My husband and I spent one Sunday looking at comparables before our house went officially on the market, and that preparation made it especially plain to us how well we had been advised by Chris. We stopped worrying. I had chosen well: Chris is exactly the type of person I want on my dream team for any undertaking: professional, ethical, communicative, diligent.
I recommend her without hesitation. "

"I write this unprompted letter because good news travels slowly, if at all. Earlier this year, my sister and I sought the services of a broker who could facilitate the sale of my mother's home at 1225 Monterey Avenue in Berkeley.|
From the outset, Chris demonstrated a number of characteristics which came promptly into play. First she had a keen ability to match the buyer with the genre of the neighborhood and my mother's circa 1925 home. She also recognized that my mother's Quaker sensibilities regarding home decoration (unflamboyant) would call for some level of interior redecorating and staging. She carried that out to a fare-thee-well in timely and efficient manner. Not ending there, she advanced funds and scheduled the various contractors, making life a lot easier for my sister and me immediately following my mother's memorial services.
She had an excellent sense of the market, particularly taking into account its extraordinary level of volatility. Her pricing was spot-on; unfortunately, we lost the first buyer due to asset shrinkage and last minute fears by the buyer. A backup buyer was the remedy (with whom Chris had maintained good relations). It paid off and we closed promptly.
All during this process, Chris was a pleasure to work with, particularly during the time when market anxiety was high and we had to start all over again. One educational course that Chris does not need to take - because it comes naturally to her - is real estate ethics. She is a straight shooter and a real pro. "

"We had the pleasure of working with Chris to help sell our home, as well as purchase a new one. If it isn't already apparent from talking with her or from the many accolades on her website, Chris is a very talented and experienced realtor. Selling or purchasing a home is a stressful endeavor, and it is crucial to have a guide through this process that is knowledgeable, even-keeled, and sensitive to your needs. Chris possesses all of these qualities in abundance.|
She made selling our house far easier than we imagined, especially given the current economic climate. Working in a very small window of time, she nailed the marketing of our house, generating buzz in all of the right places. Just one open house and several bids later, our house was in escrow for a price well over asking!
On the purchasing side of things, her knowledge of the local market and its agents really helps when it comes to evaluating properties. She was incredibly patient with the millions of questions we had all along the way (and believe me, we had a LOT of questions). She is also prudent in a way that is beneficial to her clients. In our case, she made sure that we knew as much about the property we were purchasing as possible, leading us through a series of inspections, multiple tours of the home, and analysis of comparable homes to make sure we knew exactly what we were getting into. And she's not the type of agent that will rush you into picking a home, or encourage you to settle on too high a price just to make her job easier. Case in point - we took over a year to close on the house we purchased!
On top of all of all of this, both of us found Chris to be very personable, accessible and friendly. Chris helped us get into our dream home, but should we ever need to move for any reason, she would be our first call."

"We found Chris while searching the internet for a real estate agent. It was clear from her website that she had a lot of experience and an excellent reputation and we loved the houses she found for her clients. Right from the start, we really connected with Chris, and found her to be highly knowledgeable, experienced and genuine. |
Chris first represented us as sellers. She gave us thorough advice on simple improvements we could make to our condo to make it more attractive to our targeted buyers. Incredibly, our condo sold in two days!
Next, Chris worked tirelessly to help us find the perfect home. We always felt confident and proud to have Chris as our agent. At each open house, when we told the seller's agent we were working with Chris Cohn, we always got a positive reaction, and it was clear that Chris' reputation preceded her. She always gave us her honest opinion, and never tried to push or "sell us" on a home. She pointed out the weaknesses and strengths of potential homes, and gave us detailed input so that we could make an informed decision. After two months of intense house-hunting, Chris found us our dream home in the Berkeley Hills. We have a house that we love.
Our experience buying and selling a home with Chris was perfect. We have developed a great professional and personal relationship with her, and would highly recommend her to our closest friends and family."

"The first indication that we had chosen a great advisor in hiring Chris was based on the reactions of her colleagues to the mere mention of her name. Her distinguished standing within the community was apparent. Still, we had no idea how truly fortunate we were until we stumbled on our dream house.
Chris helped us adeptly navigate an escrow rife with uncertainty. She good-naturedly did what needed to be done and made the difficult look easy. Always available for consultation and hand holding, Chris helped us make informed decisions and kept us at ease. Her skills at negotiating, patience at the ridiculous, insightful suggestions and persistent follow-up, all ensured the deal closed. Throughout, Chris demonstrated an amazing ability to placate the seller (who had to contend with our six-page punch list) while ensuring first and foremost that our needs were met.
She is an advocate, a trusted advisor, and a true friend. We were honored to be her clients."
Deb & Emma - Buyers
In late 2007, we came to the conclusion that, with a new baby on the way, our long commutes were no longer sustainable and it was time to move. So on what was pretty much the spur of the moment, we decided to put our Albany condo on the market. We knew the timing was horrible - not only had the mortgage crisis just broken, but our condo association was still in the process of doing repair work on the foundation, a fact that we knew would make for a tough sell. Nonetheless, we thought we would give it a try, and contacted Chris to see if she could help us. Since Chris had helped us negotiate a substantial price reduction when we bought the condo in the first place, we had complete faith in her enthusiasm, expertise, and negotiating savvy. We weren't disappointed. Within literally a week after we told her we were interested in selling, Chris helped us get our place freshly carpeted, beautifully staged and photographed, and ready for an open house. In a little over two weeks, we had three attractive offers, and we ended up making a sale for significantly over the asking price. We hadn't been sure we'd be able to sell our condo at all; Chris helped us sell it at whirlwind speed and at a price that beat our expectations. We were amazed.|
Results like that speak for themselves, but we should also add that Chris made the entire experience painless by being such a pleasure to work with. She made herself available at all times to answer our questions and talk through our options. And despite the challenges we faced, she remained unflaggingly warm, energetic, and reassuring throughout the process. In short, we feel lucky to have found Chris; we couldn't have asked for a better agent.

Placing our Berkeley home of 23 years up for sale in the declining real estate market of late 2007 was daunting. We interviewed several fine real estate agents, but Chris Cohn exemplified all the attributes and skills we sought to the highest degree: experience, competence, and unsurpassed integrity matched with savvy. And such a pleasant and enjoyable person! Our comfort level with Chris was immediate and she had our confidence. If we felt daunted, Chris wasn't in the least.|
Chris clearly enjoys what she does and was eager to tackle the challenge of obtaining the best result for us given the existing market. No house is perfect, and she impressed us with her belief in the strengths of our house and in us as sellers. Our labor during process of house preparation had its stressful moments and obstacles but the steady and cheerful Chris guided us through the hurdles with resourcefulness. Chris has impeccable timing and judgment and kept us focused. More good fortune was Chris' remarkable support team from her expert color consultant and stager to referrals to skilled specialists from plumbers to landscapers.
The final results were extraordinary. As opening day neared, Chris kicked-off a sophisticated marketing blitz, both traditional and on the internet. We were stunned with the results: over 1500 hits on the virtual tour, over 60 agents on the broker's tour (they know not to miss a Chris Cohn opening!) and over 200 potential buyers at the first Sunday open house, in 2-1/2 hours! The buzz was phenomenal. Serious buyers appeared in short order and we received multiple offers over asking-price.
Chris guided us strategically and brilliantly through a successful negotiation, escrow, and closing, always with our best interests and wishes paramount. Our home and garden was passed to an excited new owner and we moved on to our next chapter in life as extremely satisfied sellers with our hopes exceeded. The stellar results and memorable experiences along the way were only achieved by working with one of the Bay Area's very best real estate agents who also become our gracious and generous friend. Thank you, Chris.

It seems that one might want the qualities in a real estate agent that you look for in a trusted friend:
But then we found the perfect house, our dream home - all 3 of us agreed it was right! Alas, 11 offers were placed on the house we wanted - despair ensued. Had we come so far only to be disappointed? Chris remained calm, confident and resourceful. We are convinced that it was only Chris's skill and experience, collegial relationships and great offer-writing talent that put us at the top of the heap: we got the house!!
Thank you, thank you Chris for being an amazing agent and a trusted friend. Let's go get that tuna cucumber roll!!

We had a great experience buying our home with Chris.|
We were first-time home buyers and she was a fantastic fit for us - she answered all of our questions with patience and, most importantly, really took the time to understand what we were looking for in a home. Unlike the other agents we interviewed, we felt like Chris was one of the few who hadn't been jaded by the industry and remembered how scary it is to make such a large commitment for the first time.
Her experience and great reputation were obvious right from the start, both through our interactions with her and after speaking with others in the real estate business whom we told Chris was our agent. Her knowledge of home construction and what to look for was especially helpful when we were viewing homes.
During our nine-month search during a changing market, Chris was there to help us through our frustrations, seeing properties, making offers, waiting to find the "right one" for us, and, once our offer was accepted, putting all the wheels in motion through escrow and beyond. She is diligent, resourceful, communicative, and has a wonderful attitude. She also had great contacts for the rest of the team involved - loan brokers, inspectors, and engineers. We believe Chris is an excellent agent and hope to maintain a close relationship with her personally and professionally.

As first time home buyers, Chris was everything we could ask for and more. From our first meeting all the way through the seven months it took us to buy the perfect house, she was an invaluable asset in the daunting task of buying a home in the Bay Area.
From the very beginning we were struck by her expansive knowledge of her field. Whether we had a question about property values, mortgages, structural issues or anything else that crept up, we felt we had an expert resource we could rely on anytime. She never made us feel stupid for asking even the most rudimentary of questions and answered each in terms that a novice could understand.
Our home buying needs were a bit unique in that we were two best friends looking to pool our money and become first time home buyers. Chris was able to see each house in terms of how it could work for us
The most important part of our relationship with Chris is that we always got the feeling that every move she made or advice she gave was with our best interests at heart. We cannot stress this enough-we never, ever got the feeling that Chris would look beyond our interest even the slightest bit in order to "get a deal done." An added bonus is that Chris is a delightful person to spend time with and she made this stressful, daunting, and at times frustrating process seem fun. We are lucky to now consider her a friend.
When it's time to sell our house and buy the next we would never have anyone else but Chris work with us. We think she'd even make us want to continue living in the East Bay just so we could keep working with her
Chris was an invaluable asset ... Both professionally and personally. Chris took a cherished home in much need of deep cleaning and polishing and turned it into a gem.|
My father designed and built the house that he and my mother called home for nearly 50 years. The house was a personification of my father - Chris understood this and took great care to maintain the integrity of my father's passion. She called upon her library of resources - electricians, contractors, painters, landscapers, haulers, window washers, and house cleaners - to return their home to the showplace that gave my Dad such pride.
I felt entirely comfortable with her suggestions and decisions. Yet, she always allowed my input and final authority with complete respect. Chris' organizational skills were complemented by her extremely competent assistant, Nina Mazur. They constitute a marvelous team.
Chris was so much more than a "Seller's Agent." Choosing Chris as your agent is the first step in the successful sale of your house.

Shawn & Heather (and Sam) HoflandEven though we knew the basics about various East Bay neighborhoods, we really appreciated hearing specifics from you. We felt you were knowledgeable about house construction and liked having guidance about what to look out for. It was good to be warned in advance about house issues. We did appreciate tremendously the help after the bid was accepted, with the inspector and estimates.
Your bluntness is refreshing. It's nice to have the truth, and not have things sugarcoated. We felt that you had our best interests at heart, and that you knew us well. "

Chris applied her technical know-how, people skills and many years in the East Bay Real Estate business to achieve superb results for us in the purchase and then, six years later, sale of our Rockridge home.
Her "no stones unturned" approach and access to the best assessment resources available provided us the peace of mind we needed to make our purchase. Her technical abilities were complemented with excellent listening skills. She was able to understand and incorporate OUR NEEDS and VALUES into the buying and selling process. She was patient and thorough about explaining the complex technical issues. This enabled us to feel very much in command of the important decision making.
We sold our home during a period of rapid price transition, so selecting a sales price that was appropriately high, but would still encourage multiple bids was touch. Chris researched this issue fully and thoughtfully before offering a recommendation. We went with her recommendation. Our home sold for almost 20% over asking price in less than three weeks. After the sale, we learned that we did very well compared with "comparable" houses in our area.
You can tell that Chris truly enjoys making the potentially stressful selling process as comfortable and ENJOYABLE for her clients as she can. The day before our open house, Chris pointed out that the stair risers needed to be painted (an item we had forgotten). Before we could figure out how to get the painting done, Chris has paint brush in hand and was proceeding to do a great job while cheering us up enough to finish the items of our task lists.
We are so grateful to have been so well taken care of and to have felt "safe" throughout the process.

People say that there are only 3 things that are important in real estate: location, location, and location. Well, I would like to add to that by saying that there are only 3 things that are important in selecting a real estate agent: experience, experience and experience.
After moving to the beautiful Aloha state of Hawaii on a job assignment and living there for 3 years, my wife and I decided to sell our home in Berkeley, California, which I had lived in for 22 years. It was an old brown shingle, 2-story house in the Elmwood district near the UC campus. Through out the years we continued to make improvements to the house as it was going to be our home forever. We put in a new kitchen, a new bathroom, new shingles on the outside and new foundation, among other things.
The decision to sell was easy. The choice of an agent, however, was quite challenging, especially when we are 2500 miles away. We relied on the Internet to the large extent and had many competent agents come through with excellent proposals. In the end we decided to go with Chris Cohn based on her extensive experience in selling real estate, specializing in old homes in Berkeley. I had never met her before and based my decision solely on the referrals and research results from the Internet.
From the get-go, Chris's experience came through like a shining light. She suggested a modest price point, set the calendar on advertising, marketing and open houses. Most importantly, she had answers to all my questions. With excellent support from her company and staff, the campaign went through its course without a hitch and resulted in 5 offers in just 3 weeks, after only 2 open house tours. All of the offers were considerably over the asking price. Again, Chris handled the situation with great professionalism and ease, based on her experience.
My wife and I are grateful to Chris for her help in making this significant transition in our lives a smooth, worry-free experience. I highly recommend her.

Not only did Chris help us find and win our dream house, she also sold our loft for more than we could have possibly imagined. She made two fairly stressful events seem practically painless. We specifically appreciated her great advice on negotiating the price and her amazing network of gardeners, stylists, haulers, etc. who helped prepare our loft for the market.
We continue to stay in touch with her and strongly recommend working with her to anyone who is looking to sell or buy. She consistently exceeded our expectations.

We have bought and sold a condo with Chris, and we feel extremely fortunate to have been able to work with her. She has forever defined for us what a real estate agent ought to be! The experience of working with her was delightful all through. She made everything seem so easy. Both times the process was quicker and more efficient than we expected. The process was seamless even while we were thousands of miles away from Berkeley. I remember when I first read these testimonials and it helped to reconfirm my accessment of Chris. Now, after reading them again after my house has sold, I realize every word is true. "Buying or selling your home can be a frustrating and stressful experience. Chris recently represented us in both selling and buying our home. We cannot fully express how happy we are with her efforts and with our new home. She focused on finding houses that fit our tastes and needs, instead of forcing us into a house that resulted in a quick buy or sell. Her quick learning of our preferences and requirements also reduced the number of houses we needed to view. In selling our home Chris removed much of the burden and stress associated with selling a home by helping us prepare our house for the market. She is extremely knowledgeable about what needs to be done to prepare and a home and has excellent resources for people we needed to help us through the whole process. Chris accurately gauged the market during the buying and selling of our home, and continued to help us after the final purchase. She fought for us and made sure our best interests were always protected. Chris is an outstanding realtor who literally helped us get the home of our dreams."

"As both buyer and seller, I have had the pleasure of working with Chris on many real estate transactions over the last 20 years. Each time she brought professionalism, knowledge, patience, insight, skill, and tact, not to mention style and good humor to the proceedings. When she was voted one of the three best Realtors in Berkeley by a poll of her peers, I was not at all surprised. Her business acumen and people skills combine to make Chris as good a broker as you will find. My recommendation is unqualified."

Vivian Mazur You came into my life at a very difficult time and you were a lifesaver! One of the best things that happened to me in a difficult time was deciding on you as the person to help me sell my home. I interviewed five agents and it was a clear choice to pick you, Chris. The brochure you distributed was a work of art. Your advertising was fantastic. Anyone wishing to sell a home would be very fortunate to have you as their agent. You can do no better!
Laura Hutchinson "I wanted to pass on to you our thanks for an OUTSTANDING job you did as our realtor in the sale of my mother's house at 43 Maryland Ave., Berkeley.
Beginning with your prelisting presentation to us, and continuing with the recommendations for how to present the house at the open houses, the handout brochures and newspaper advertising, handling the offer presentations and responses, coordination for inspections to the finally the closing of escrow with the title company. ALL, was very professional and detailed. I especially appreciated how you kept me informed of the progress during the listing period.

...needless to say, we were thrilled at how quickly the house sold and at the amount of the offers...In only 23 days, in the midst of a hectic, almost frantic, local real estate market, we closed escrow.
There is no professional with whom we have worked that surpassed the knowledge, sense of humor and plain hard work that Chris showed throughout the experience. We recommend her to you enthusiastically and without reservation."

Throughout the process, we felt as though we had a real partnership with her. We would highly recommend Chris to anyone looking for an agent to sell their home."

I was very impressed with her thoroughness, knowledge, warm personality, intelligence, and utmost professionalism,...her ability to get things done swiftly and efficiently.
Chris worked tirelessly before, during and after an open house to make sure that interested buyers did not simply fade away. Nothing escaped Chris, and I felt very well informed throughout.
